4 Mistakes Not to Make When Packing for Your Office Move to Little Rock

Office Moving - Office RelocationBoxing up your office sounds like a simple chore, right? Especially if you are somewhat orderly worker, it looks like all you'd be required to do is tuck your documents in a box, your computer and peripherals in another, load up your desk, and you’re done. Unfortunately, moving your office from point A to point B is many times a lot harder than we tend to think it is. Fortunately, sidestepping these frequent errors when it is time to box up your office can save you a decent amount of headaches when moving to Little Rock.

Mistake #1: Not Enough Organization

No matter if you are moving yourself or have employed a moving company to assist, the worst thing you can do when it's go time is to go into it without getting suitably prepared. You might think you're organized because you penned a lonely item description on the outside of the box, but what you should do is prepare in advance what you're going to pack and in what order you need to pack it. After that, you must distinctly label what is is going into which box. Because when you get your boxes loaded up, moved, and to your destination, you are not going to remember which box contains your power cords, and which one holds your stapler in it. So, write a list on every box of what is in it to prevent digging, disorientation, and some hysteria while you get unpacked.

Mistake #2: Burying Things You Really Need

If you have ever moved your residence, you might be familiar with that notion of finding the sheets you have not used in a decade amidst unpacking, but not being able to uncover the shampoo and fresh clothes you need for in the morning. An office move can have a similar issue. That is why you should pack up the things you are not going to need immediately (such as your tax records from seven years ago), and be sure they go on the moving truck first. The things you are going to need quickly (your desk, your computer, your printer, etc.) should all be packed up last so they're the first items you remove from the truck. This method helps curtail your downtime, and helps you get right back to work once you reach your destination.

Mistake #3: Not Using a Timeline or a Checklist

Moving an office to Little Rock is a process that has a tendency to happen accumulatively, which is why it's vital to use the right tools to understand your progress. You should have a timeline written out to estimate the amount of time it will take to pack up your things, the amount of time it will take to move it, the amount of time it will take to unpack, and then the amount of time it will take to get everything set back up. The timeline must have some space in it for problems, and it should be connected to a checklist so you can mark off tasks as they're done. If you plan to hire a professional moving company, they will aid you with this part. Flying by the seat of your pants isn't a very good option for an office move.

Mistake #4: Bringing Stuff You Don't Need to Little Rock

Moving your office is a chance to start over, and to put your best foot forward. However, lots of people wind up just moving everything with them, whether or not they really need it. That's why, prior to thinking about packing, you must sort through everything in your office and think about if it needs to move to the new office location. That broken hole punch that you already bought a new one and were storing in case you could get it fixed? Don't dirty up your new office with it. The box of old, but still working, routers you hung onto in case of an I.T. emergency? Well, if they are some years old, they are most likely antiquated. That pack of musty paper that does not fit your printer? Recycle it or give it to an employee for their children to draw on. The more items you can get rid of (including digitizing old records so the paper copies are no longer necessary) the easier your move will be.
